Stayner, Thomas Allen : Soldier postmaster general

Thomas Allen Stayner joined the British Army in 1808 and worked as a clerk to the Military Secretary at Halifax. He was at Montreal during the War of 1812. He remained in the regular army until 1823 and the following year was appointed postmaster at Quebec. In 1827 he succeeded his father-in-law, Daniel Sutherland, as Postmaster General of Upper and Lower Canada.
