This collection consists of miscellaneous manuscripts relevant to Canada selected from the Lambeth Palace Library collection concerning the missionary work of the Church of England. Included are papers relating to the American colonies, 1641-1760; a late eighteenth century plan of Loyalist settlements in Canada; papers relating to the establishment of episcopacy in America, 1712-1780; papers relating to the Bishop of London's jurisdiction in the American colonies, ca. 1723-1785; excerpts from the papers of Thomas Secker, Archbishop of Canterbury, which include material relating to William and Mary College in Virginia, ca. 1748-1765; and letters of "Philanglus Americanus", 1760. This material is located on microfilm reels A-1081 and A-1082.

In addition to the North American material, the microfilm reels contain some items pertaining to the Church of England in the West Indies.

Lambeth Palace Library : Lambeth Palace Library is the library of the London residence of the Archbishops of Canterbury. Because of the missionary work of the Church of England, the library's large manuscript collection contains much material which relates to North American. Included in its holdings, for example, are the Fulham Papers, records of the Bishops of London, who were virtually the diocesan heads of the Church of England overseas during the colonial period (see MG 17, B 5), and many of the early records of the Society for the Propagation of the Gospel in Foreign parts (see MG 17, B 8). In addition to such large coherent series, the collection contains numerous miscellaneous manuscripts relevant to Canada, from which the selections in this unit derive.
