Brouse (Family) : George Brouse (1789-1860), merchant of Matilda and one of the original postmasters of the province was also at one time a member of the Legislature of Upper Canada. He raised a large family, which settled in the Matilda area of Dundas County, where George's father, Peter Brouse (1763-1810) a United Empire Loyalist, was granted land in 1818. Another member of the family, Nicholas Brouse (1794-1859), of Iroquois Village, served in the War of 1812.
