Fonds consists of two grants of land in Liverpool Township, N.S., totalling 300,000 acres, made to Alexander McNutt and his associates Samuel Henderson, Arthur Vance, William Caldwell, Joseph McNutt, and Richard Caldwell, to be used for the promotion of settlement.

McNutt, Alexander (fl. 1725-1811) and associates : Alexander McNutt (ca. 1725-1811) emigrated from Ireland to Virginia in about 1753. He served with the expedition against Louisbourg in 1758, became interested in the possibilities of settlement in Nova Scotia and became a promoter and organizer. During the American War of Independence, McNutt petitioned the Continental Congress, urging that Nova Scotia be joined with the revolting colonies. He died at Lexington, Va.
