Also included are newspaper clippings, memorabilia, and a holographic manuscript of page 1, chapter 1 of Stead's book, Grain.
Fonds also contains photographs of Robert J.C. Stead's life and family, n.d., and a portrait of Robert J.C. Stead, Ottawa, Ont., ca. 1946.Provenance:Biography/Administrative history:Stead, Robert J. C., 1880-1959 : Robert Stead, author, was born in Middleville, Lanark Co., Ontario, but moved with his family in 1882 to Manitoba. When he was 18, he founded and edited the Cartwright Southern Manitoba Review and by 1908 he was publishing the Crystal City Courier as well. He sold both weeklies in 1909 and worked on the editorial staff of the Calgary Albertan in 1912. In 1913, he joined the CPR's colonization department and in 1919 the federal department of Immigration and Colonization. In 1936, he was made superintendent of publicity for national parks and resources.
