Woodward of the Saskatoon Star-Phoenix, J.G. Diefenbaker notes, correspondence, clippings, A.Y. Jackson: National Committee on Homage to A.Y. Jackson, Stephen Leacock correspondence and material, subject files, Royal Commission on the South Saskatchewan River Project, Social Credit in Alberta, newspaper clippings by subject, miscellaneous printed material, newspaper clippings in general.

Also included are posters relating to the political career of Burton Taylor Richardson: 2 posters of the Spadina 1965 Federal election in which Richardson ran as a Progressive Conservative candidate; posters celebrating the ninetieth birthday of A.Y. Jackson; miscellaneous posters.

The fonds contains photographic material depicting the education and career of Burton Taylor Richardson as foreign news correspondent, newspaper editor and public affairs personality; members of the Royal Commission on the South Saskatchewan River project, 1951-1952; Burton Taylor Richardson's Arctic trips of 1948 and 1951; Stephen Leacock centennial, 1970 and Saskatoon.

In addition, the fonds consists of sound recordings of a 1960 interview of Burton Taylor Richardson along with a sound documentary, entitled Flora 1976, of speeches and interviews by Flora MacDonald assembled as part of her campaign for leadership of the Progressive Conservative Party.

Richardson, Burton Taylor, 1906- : Burton Taylor Richardson, journalist, was born at Selkirk, Manitoba, and educated at the University of Manitoba, Syracuse University and the London School of Economics. He began his career in journalism as a news reporter for the Regina Leader-Post, 1929 to 1935. He worked for the Sifton newspapers, specifically the Winnipeg Free Press from 1936 to 1945, and was on assignment at Edmonton from 1936 to 1939 covering the Social Credit Government in Alberta; at Winnipeg from 1939 to 1940; and at Ottawa as a parliamentary correspondent from 1940 to 1944. His principle foreign posts were Washington, D.C., 1945, and London, England, 1946.

He served as editor of the Saskatoon Star-Phoenix from 1946 to 1948; editor of the Winnipeg Citizen from 1948 to 1949, associate editor of the Ottawa Citizen from 1949 to 1951, and editor of the Toronto Telegram from 1952 to 1962. He retired as editor of The Telegram, becoming a special correspondent at Washington, D.C., in July 1962. In January 1963, he was appointed Special Assistant to Prime Minister John G. Diefenbaker. In 1965, he ran unsuccessfully as the Federal Progressive Conservative candidate in Spadina. In 1967, he joined P.S. Ross and Partners as a consulting associate.

From 1951 to 1952 Richardson served as Secretary to the Federal Royal Commission on the South Saskatchewan River. He was the leader of the Canadian Delegation to the Commonwealth Affairs Conference, New Zealand, 1959. He was chairman of the Stephen Leacock Centennial Committee, from 1969 to 1979 and a member of the National Committee, Homage to A.Y. Jackson, 1972. The author of numerous articles, Richardson was also a commentator on the CBC and a news broadcaster for CFRB, Toronto, 1954 to 1955.
