Fonds consists of a warrant for the appointment of John Henry Dunn as member of the Legislative Council of Upper Canada, 4 October 1821; correspondence and returns of strength accumulated by Colonel John Henry Dunn in his capacity as Commanding Officer of the First North York Militia; and one letter from Anthony Marshall, Inspector of Licences for Victoria District to John Dunn, Receiver General regarding remittances, 21 October 1840.

Dunn, John Henry, d. 1854 : John Henry Dunn, politician, came to Upper Canada in 1820, with a commission appointing him Receiver General of that province. He was appointed to the Legislative Council in 1822, and held his seat until 1841. On 20 February 1836, he was appointed to the Executive Council but resigned his seat, as did all other members of Council, on 12 March 1836. After the Union of 1841, Dunn was reappointed Receiver General and held this position until 31 December 1843, and was reappointed a member of the Executive Council, sitting until 27 November 1843. He was also elected as Member of the Legislative Assembly for Toronto, 1841-1844, and held a commission for some years as Colonel of the First North York militia unit. He later returned to England and died in London, 21 April 1854.
