Fonds consists of accounts of the exports of Quebec in 1773, and of the exports and imports of the British North American colonies in 1769. The notes are in the hand of Edward Long (1734-1813) and were probably collected by him for his The History of Jamaica, which was published anonyomously in 1774.

Long, Edward, 1734-1813 : Author and Judge of the Vice-Admiralty Court.

Edward Long (1734-1813) was born, 23 August 1734, at Roselyon St. Blazey, Cornwall, England. He was the fourth son of Samuel Long (d. 1757) of Longville, Jamaica, Tredudwell in Cornwall, and Bloomsbury, London, England, by his wife, Mary, second daughter and co-heir of Bartholomew Tate of Delapré, Northamptonshire, England. On the death of his father, Edward Long went to Jamaica, where he filled the post of private secretary to the lieutenant-governor, his brother-in-law, Sir Henry Moore, bart. In a short time he was appointed judge of the Jamaican vice-admiralty court, but ill health compelled him to leave Jamaica in 1769. He passed the rest of his days in studious retirement in England. His most notable work was the History of Jamaica, which was issued anonymously in three volumes in 1774.

Additional Manuscript 12413 is one of four volumes of miscellaneous notes and memoranda, chiefly relating to the history, statistics and trade of Jamaica and the West Indies islands, in the hand of Edward Long, which were acquired by the British Library in 1842. In 1916, the National Archives of Canada transcribed ff. 6v, 25-26.
