Fonds consists of letters from Chauncey to the Secretary of the Navy, Washington, D.C., 1812-1814, transcripts, 5 cm; and selected letters from Chauncey to the Secretary of the Navy, 1812-1813, a summary prepared in 1928 of the correspondence concerning the assistance given to Commodore Perry at Pittsburgh, and the manner in which supplies were shipped to Lake Erie, February-July 1913, 2.5 cm.

Chauncey, Isaac, 1772-1840 : Isaac Chauncey was a career naval officer who commanded the American fleets on Lakes Ontario and Erie, 1812-1815. He was later a member of the Board of Navy Commissioners, 1821-1824 and 1832-1840 and served as president of this Board, 1837-1840.
