Fonds consists of letters to Cooke from Major William Bowyer of the 8th West India Regiment then stationed in Nova Scotia, 1808-1809, referring to troop movements, differences between ranking officers and Bowyer's desire for Cooke's aid in acquiring favour with officers in England.

Cooke, George, 1768-1837 : George Cooke distinguished himself as an officer in the Low Countries, 1794-1795, and 1798-1799; then he served as assistant adjutant-general to the northwest district, 1803-1895. In 1808, he was promoted to brevet colonel and in 1811 he was appointed Commander at Cadiz. Cooke became a lieutenant-general in 1821.
