Fonds consists of receipted statements dated 13 February 1839, 6 March 1848 and 8 April 1848 itemizing various articles supplied to Lieutenant John Johnston, Fort Adjutant at Isle-aux-Noix, by N. Whitney and John Wright, lessees of the fort's canteen; and a letter from Rev. Charles Morice, chaplain at Isle-aux-Noix to Rev. John Johnston, Jr. (son of Lieutenant Johnston) of Aylmer, Canada East, 19 March 1855, regarding the reduction of the garrison at that post.

Johnston, John, fl. 1810-1833 : John Johnston had a very active career in the Canadian army and militia and received numerous promotions and appointments. He was recommended for lieutenancy on 23 April 1810 when he was Ensign of the Canadian Fencible Corps and was stationed at York, Upper Canada in 1811 and 1812. He was appointed Assistant Adjutant-General of the Upper Canada Militia on 30 July 1812 and thereby received the title Captain. On 24 September 1814, he was named Deputy-Assistant Quartermaster-General of the Army and was on half pay when in 1823, he was appointed as Surveyor of Ordnance Stores. Finally, on 25 April 1832, he was appointed Fort Adjutant, Isle aux Noix and maintained that position til his death sometime before 1845. He was denied a promotion to captain in 1833.
