Fonds consists of letters from Philip Durnford, 5 October and 10 October 1825 to his parents relating some of the events of the 68th Regiment's journey from Quebec to Kingston; a memorandum, 18 November 1831 written by E.W. Durnford and listing the officers under his command employed in building the Quebec Citadel; and a letter, 17 December 1837, from John Durnford to his parents giving some details of the Rebellion in Lower Canada.

Durnford, Elias Walker, 1774-1850 : E.W. Durnford served as commanding officer of the Corps of Royal Engineers in Canada, 1816-1831. During the 1820s one of his sons, Philip, was an officer in the 68th Regiment and served at Quebec, Kingston and the Rideau Canal. At the time of the Rebellion he was paymaster of the Queen's Light Infantry, a regiment of Incorporated Militia. At the same time another son, John, was employed in Montreal.
