Fonds contains six of the 5,000 first class tickets in the Halifax Public School Lottery. The tickets are signed by Henry Newton, Charles Morris and J.Brenton. The name George Holmes and Nancy Holmes, Miss Grace Handfield, and the initials B.M.H. appear on the backs of four of the tickets.

Halifax Public School Lottery : The Halifax Public School Lottery advertised and sold 5,000 on 25 September 1781 and sold 5,000 first class tickets for 20/- each. In accordance with a report of a committee fo the House of the Assembly of October 1780, prizes amounting to 4,250 pounds were to be paid and 750 pounds raised for building a public school in Halifax.
