Fonds consists of a letter dated 2 January 1867 from Joseph Cauchon, Mayor of Quebec City, to A.D. Ferrier of Fergus, Ont. regarding the contributions made by the people of Fergus to the relief fund for the victims of the Quebec fire of October 1866; and a list of the subscriptions received by the relief fund, dated 6 February 1869.

Ferrier, Alexander David, 1813- : Alexander Ferrier, born in Edinburgh, Scotland, moved to Québec in 1830 and remained there until 1834. He moved to Fergus, Ont. in 1835, worked his farm until 1846, and returned to his residence in 1854, remaining there until 1875 when it was sold. Over the years he held several positions in Fergus and the surrounding area including bookkeeper, clerk to the Wellington County Council, M.P.P. for Centre Riding of Wellington (1867), Lieutenant Colonel of the Fourth Wellington and chairman of the school board.
