The diary records a journey from England to Toronto via New York, and a special mission to Buffalo and Detroit with despatches to the United States authorities complaining of Patriot activities. The diary commences on 16 May 1838 and breaks off on 25 November 1838 when the Regiment set out for the Western District of Upper Canada. Subsequent entries were made 9-18 May 1841 during a visit to Montreal.
