The letters to the editor series contains Josephy's numerous letters to the editors of the "Ottawa Citizen", the Toronto "Globe and Mail", the "Toronto Sun" and "Life" magazine between 1961 and 1984 on pacifism, the peace movement, abortion and other public issues. The associations series includes records relating to Amnesty International, Canada's Response to the Chilean Coup, Friends Service Committee, Old Country Club, Ottawa Committee on the Control of Radiation Hazards, Ottawa Committee for Peace and Liberation, Right to Life of Toronto and Area, and the Unitarian Social Responsibility Committee. The manuscripts and related papers series includes Josephy's autobiographical records and copies of her poetry. The tenants associations series contains correspondence and memoranda concerning rent review and the Cadillac Fairview Tenants Association, Cadillac-Fairview Corporation Ltd., Greymac Trust Company and the Ontario Government's investigation into this matter. The fonds also contains an audio recording of a speech by Linus Pauling at a meeting at the University of Ottawa, 1959.Provenance:Biography/Administrative history:Josephy, Goldie, 1924-2002 : Goldie Josephy (née Moss) was born in 1924 in London, England, and received her education at the University of London, B. Sc. in Economics. She emigrated to Canada in 1957, settling in Ottawa, Ontario where she organized the Old Country Club to help British immigrants adjust to their new country.
In 1961 she helped to organize and also served as Secretary of the Ottawa Committee on the Control of Radiation Hazards, and Anti-nuclear Bomb Association which arranged demonstrations, petitions, pamphlets and speeches from notable persons such as Linus Pauling. In 1970 she organized and served as Chairman of the Ottawa Committee on Peace and Liberation to offer refuge to U.S. draft dodgers and to arrange demonstrations against the Vietnam War. She served on the executive of Amnesty International of Canada as Co-ordinator of Special Projects 1974, Ottawa Representative in 1975 and became a member of the National Council, 1978. She was Secretary to the Right to Life Association of Toronto and area in 1977.
From 1961 she had written thousands of letters to the editors of the "Ottawa Citizen," the Toronto "Globe and Mail" and other widely-read periodicals.
