Fonds consists of correspondence relating to personal and professional matters, including letters to and from William Lyon Mackenzie King, 1892-1901, 10 cm; diaries kept by Harper while a student, 1890, 1891, 2.5 cm; memoranda and notes, 5 cm; clippings and periodicals, 1898-1901, 2.5 cm.

Harper, Henry Albert, 1873-1901 : Henry A. Harper, public servant, graduated in political science from the University of Toronto in 1895. He worked as a journalist from 1897 to 1900 when he was appointed assistant deputy minister of the newly-formed Department of Labour, headed by his friend, William Lyon Mackenzie King. Harper's primary responsibility was the preparation of the department publication, The Labour Gazette. He drowned in 1901 while attempting to save the life of a companion. Mackenzie King wrote a tribute to him, Secret of Heroism: A Memoir of Henry Albert Harper, 1919.
