Fonds consists of the following series: Board of Directors minutes and files, Annual reports, Annual Meeting files, Committee minutes, Committee files, Subject files, and Printed material.

Fonds also consists of numerous photographic materials and audio visual materials depicting various activities and officials of the Chamber of Commerce. Also included are two printing dies, 1931-1979, consisting of the Canadian Chamber of Commerce member logo and a signature, and a lapel button, 1931-1979, for the "Winnipeg Convention Centre".

Canadian Chamber of Commerce : The Canadian Chamber of Commerce came into existence after a conference held in Winnipeg in 1925. Given the provisional name of Canadian Board of Trade, the Chamber later adopted its present name. The first annual meeting was held in 1926; a Board of Directors was elected, a set of by-laws agreed upon and it was decided to appoint a General Secretary with headquarters in Montreal. Initially, the Chamber received all of its revenue from the large member Boards and Chambers. More recently it has derived most of its funds from member business firms.

The Chamber has been a prominent pressure group, lobbying governments on wide range of issues of interest to the business community. These have included taxation, levels of government expenditure and labour relations. In addition, the Chamber maintained a very active Canada-United States Committee. The organization is now affiliated with the various provincial chambers of commerce. It now focuses mainly on national issues, while the local and provincial chambers and Boards of Trade deal with matters pertaining to their jurisdiction.

For many years the Chamber published a glossy periodical entitled Canadian Business, as well as member publications, the Newsletter and The Record.

General note:

Textual records were received in 1976 from the Canadian Chamber of Commerce in Montreal, Que. Some photographic and audio-visual materials were acquired with the textual records, others may have been acquired later. Additional textual records were received in 2004 from the Canadian Chamber of Commerce in Ottawa, Ont.
Additional material, not yet described here, is being processed. Researchers wishing to use this material should consult the Economic/Scientific Archives Section.

The volumes 81 and 82 contain restricted files removed from volumes 1 to 65:
