Fonds consists of correspondence and printed matter relating to J.C. Hanson's affiliation with European Socialist and C.C.F. circles in the 1940's, his activities in various positions in Ottawa in the 1950's, and his active role in the Progressive Conservative Party on the national level during the Diefenbaker years.

Fonds also consists of seven survey plans of Surrey, and parishes of the counties of Westmorland, Albert and York.

Hanson, J. Carlisle, 1920- : J. Carlisle Hanson, public servant and lawyer, born in 1920 in New Brunswick, received his early education in that province. He received his M.A. at McGill University on a Bronfman Fellowship in 1947 and studied law and economics in 1947-1948 at the London School of Economics, on a Beaverbook Overseas Scholarship. He was called to the bar in 1951 and practised law until 1953, when he joined the Federal Civil Service. In 1957, he was appointed Private Secretary and Executive Assistant to the Minister of Veterans Affairs. He resigned in 1959 and resumed his law practice, although he remained active in Conservative party circles.
