Fonds consists of correspondence and memoranda relating to the Ninth International Botanical Congress, the U.S.S.R. Agricultural Exhibition in 1954, the Scientific Club of Winnipeg, the Commonwealth Mycological Institute, the Mycological Society of America, the Royal Society of Canada, Department staff reclassifications, and miscellaneous matters, volumes 1-2.

Hanna, William Fielding, 1892-1972 : Dr. William Fielding Hanna, plant pathologist, born in Nova Scotia, was educated at Dalhousie University, the universities of Alberta, Manitoba, and Minnesota, Imperial College, London, and at Yale. He served in W.W. I and W.W. II as an air officer, and during W.W. II was transferred to the Joint Canadian American Defense Board. From 1928 to 1939 Dr. Hanna was engaged as a research scientist at the Dominion Rust Research Laboratory, Canada Department of Agriculture, Winnipeg, and published over 50 scientific papers, mainly on the smut diseases of cereals.

Following his discharge from the R.C.A.F. Dr. Hanna returned to the Department and eventually became Chief of the Division of Botany and Plant Pathology, Science Service, Ottawa. He retired in 1958, but accepted a one-year F.A.O. assignment in 1966 to the Plant Breeding Station, Njoro, Kenya. He was elected a Fellow of the Royal Society of Canada and of the Agricultural Institute of Canada, appointed to the Order of Canada, 1968, and was an Honorary Member of the Canadian Phytopathological Society.
