Fonds also consists of maps primarily of the federal riding of Skeena or other regions of British Columbia. There are also maps of northwestern Canada and the Atlantic provinces as well as maps of 1972 federal election results across the country.Provenance:Additional name(s):Biography/Administrative history:Howard, Frank, 1925- : Frank Howard, born in 1925 at Kimberley, B.C., concluded his formal education at grade ten. In 1943, he commenced work at the Consolidated Mining and Smelting Company of Kimberley, British Columbia. Howard later began an apprenticeship as an iron moulder and then entered the logging industry. While working in the logging industry, he became active in the International Woodworkers of America (I.W.A.). In 1949, he was elected trustee of the I.W.A. Local 1-71, and in July 1949 he became an I.W.A. organizer and was assigned to work in local 1-71. He was president of the local from 1950 until 1957.
He was a Member of the Legislative Assembly, representing Skeena from 1953 to 1956, and then from 1979 to 1986. He served as N.D.P. House Leader, 1980-1985 and Opposition Debate Leader for the Ministry of Forests. He was a Member of Parliament, representing Skeena, B.C., from 1957 to 1974. During his political career, Frank Howard had been a parliamentary observer to the 13th Session of the United Nations General Assembly in 1958. He was parliamentary delegate to the N.A.T.O. Atlantic Congress at London in 1959. He was a member of the 1962 Canada - U.S. Interparliamentary Group.
