Froese, Jake, 1925- : Jake Froese, born in 1925 at Winkler, Man., joined the Armed Forces in 1943 and served as an interpreter with the Royal Hamilton Light Infantry in Belgium, Holland, and Germany. On his return from overseas to Niagara, Ont. Froese worked in the construction trade until 1961, when he became an operator of a fruit farm and orchard.

Prior to his election to the House of Commons, Froese was active in civic politics. He served as Councillor for the Township of Niagara from 1968 to 1969; Alderman for the Town of Niagara from 1970 to 1972; and, in 1973, Lord Mayor of Niagara-on-the-Lake, the only such post in Canada. He was a Member of Parliament, representing Niagara Falls, 1979-1980.
