Collection includes memorials, letters, affidavits and related records prepared for a hearing by the Board of Trade and Plantations of complaints by and against Maj. Thomas Lloyd and Lt. John Moody, 1706-1707, 45 pages; authorization of Gov. Richard Edwards for alterations to be made in the roads at St. Johns's, with lists of residents, 1780-1781, 11 pages; list of grand, special and petty jurors for St. John's, 1833 14 pages; and notes by Capt. Julian Baker of HMS Foam made during a coastal voyage, 1883, 15 pages. The list of residents of St. John's provides some information about property, as well as names of individuals. The list of jurors may be used to some extent like a census, giving names of men between 21 and 60 with sufficient property to be qualified and liable for duty and not exempt by reason of profession, such as doctor, lawyer, army or naval officer, or government official. Baker's notes include information on population, shipping, communications, and the fisheries.
