Geikie, W.B : Physician educationalist

Walter Bayne Geikie was born in Edinburgh, Scotland. He came to Canada in 1843 and was licensed as a medical practitioner by the Medical Board of Upper Canada in 1851.

From 1856 to 1870 he was on the medical staff of Victoria Medical School, Toronto. In 1871, he joined the staff of a medical faculty in Trinity University, Toronto which became incorporated under an individual charter as Trinity Medical School in 1877 and Trinity Medical College in 1888. From 1878, Geikie served as dean of the faculty until its amalgamation in 1903 with the Toronto Medical College, the combined colleges becoming the Faculty of Medicine in the University of Toronto. He continued to act as examiner in medicine for Trinity University up to 1908. He died in Toronto.
