Fonds consists of documents in Norwegian (photocopies) with English (transcripts) translations left by Captain Godfred Hunsen for Captain Roald Amundsen at Cape Aldrich during the third Thule Expedition in April 1920. Included are letters from Godfred Hunsen, Knud Rasmussen, J.E. Bernier and Henry T. Munn, 1919-1920 and Rasmussen's plan for a depot to be placed at Cape Columbia. The originals were recovered in 1953 by an expedition sponsored by the Defence Research Board.

The fonds also contains photographs of Cairn at Gojoa Haven, King William Island, N.W.T., 1957, erected in memory of George Von Newmayer, instructor to Roald Amundsen with a copy protrait of George Von Newmayer, ca. 1902.

Amundsen, Roald, 1872-1928 : Roald Amundsen was born in Borge, Norway. An Arctic explorer, he completed the first successful navigation of the Northwest Passage as commander of the Gjoa between 1903 and 1906. During 1910-1911, he led the Norwegian Antarctic Expedition which reached the South Pole. In 1926 he flew over the North Pole with Umberto Nobile and Ellsworth in the Italian dirigible Norge. Amundsen disappeared in the Arctic in June while on a rescue mission.
