The fonds consists of photocopies of the records of the Presbyterian Congregation of Kitley Township, Leeds County, Ontario. It includes minutes, 1844-1913 (251 p.); and registers of baptisms, marriages, burials, and lists of elders and communicants, 1844-1920 (79 p.).

Toledo, Ont.: St. Andrew's Church (Presbyterian) : The settlement of Kitley Township in Leeds County, Upper Canada, began in 1795 and the first settlers were mainly United Empire Loyalists. The Presbyterians among them met for worship originally in a private home at Newbliss and then later at Newbliss school. Their first church building was erected at Toledo, on village lot 57, in 1847, and their first settled minister, Rev. David Evans, was appointed in 1852.

After the union of the various Presbyterian churches in 1875, the Kitley congregation was placed under the care of the Brockville Presbytery. The old Methodist Episcopal church, which had been built at Jasper in 1877, was purchased by the congregation in 1883, and St. George's, Jasper, joined St. Andrew's, Toledo, and St. Paul's, Athens, as centres of the Presbyterian charge of Kitley Township. A new church building replaced the original structure at Toledo in 1891.

By 1922, however, the congregation had dwindled and it was decided that it should join with the neighbouring Methodist Church to form the Toledo Union Congregation. This in turn became part of the newly formed United Church of Canada in 1925.

Received in 1975 from Mrs. Edwin Livingston of R.R. 1, Prescott, Ont. The unit was microfilmed in 1987.
