Carnochan, Janet, 1839-1926 : Janet Carnochan (1839-1926), was born in Stamford, Ont. She taught school in Brantford, Kingston, Peterborough, and finally Niagara-on-the-Lake, where she taught for 23 years. Upon her retirement, she was devoted, full-time, to her interest in local history. She founded the Niagara Historical Society in 1895, and remained the president until 1922. She was the author of Centenary of St. Mark's, 1892; Centenary of St. Andrew's, 1894; History of Niagara, 1914; as well as a number of historical papers.
