Bierstadt, Albert, 1830-1902 : Albert Bierstadt, landscape and animal painter, was born in Germany. He grew up in Massachusetts, U.S.A., studied in Europe and became a National Academician after returning to America. He spent some time travelling in Europe but his home, until his death, was in New York City.
