Avison, Harry R. C., 1901-1967 : H.R.C. Avison, educator, was born in New Denver, B.C., and studied at Montreal Presbyterian Theological College, B.A., and McGill University, M.A. After serving as minister at Delaramie, Man., and as co-ordinator of an adult education experiment at The Pas, Man., he joined the staff of Macdonald College in 1940 as English professor and editor of the Macdonald College journal. In 1960, he became Director of Extension at McGill.

He was an influential member of the Canadian Association of Adult Education and of the Student Christian Movement. His involvement also extended to such organizations as the C.C.F. Party and the Fellowship for a Christian Social Order. He was a frequent contributor to National Farm Forum, Citizen's Forum, and to the C.A.A.E.'s publication Food for Thought.
