Grant, James, Sir, 1831-1920 : Sir James Alexander Grant, born in Scotland, was educated at Queen's and McGill universities. He was personal physician to the first eight governor generals of Canada, 1867-1905. He served as president of both the Canadian Medical Association, 1872, and the Royal Society of Canada, 1902-1903, and was the author of many essays on medical and scientific subjects. He was a Conservative member of Parliament representing Russell County, 1867-1873, and Ottawa, 1893-1896. He introduced the Canadian Pacific Railway Bill, 1872. See: Canadian Encyclopedia, p. 766.
