Fonds consists of political and business correspondence confined chiefly to the period 1877-1879, giving details regarding the conduct of election compaigns, and indications of the attitude of businessmen and farmers towards the National Policy. Although limited in extent, the papers illustrate the links that connected business and politics at that time.

McLennan, John, 1821-1893 : John McLennan, a merchant at Lancaster, Ont., was a Conservative member of Parliament representing Glengarry, 1878-1882. He was vice-president of the Merchants' Bank and the Canada Shipping Company and a director of railway, manufacturing and coal companies. He was president of the Montreal Board of Trade. See: Johnson, Directory of Parliament, p. 248.
