To escape anti-semitic pogroms, Rabin immigrated to Kirkland Lake, Ont., in 1927, where he took charge of the religious life of the Jewish community. In 1929 his wife and two children joined him and he relocated in Ottawa, Ont., working with the Adath Jeshurun congregation and the Vaad Ha Kashrut.
Rabin was cantor and choirmaster at Adath Jeshurun and after the amalgamation of Adath Jeshurun and Agadath Achim in 1956 he was named cantor emeritus. His choir work, disrupted by wartime enlistment of its members, resumed in 1947. During the 1950s his work with liturgical music was augmented by his interest in the Ottawa choral society. This choral work became a hobby until his death in 1968.Additional information:General note:Received in 1975 from Mrs. Joseph Rabin of Ottawa, Ont., through Dr. Eli Rabin.Subject heading:- Registers of births, etc. Canada
