Fonds consists of letters to Paterson, mainly invitations in connection with the 1907 Colonial Conference and copies of some of Paterson's replies, a collection of autographs and letterheads taken from Paterson's letters, and newspaper clippings, mainly book reviews.

Paterson, William, 1839-1914 : William Paterson, born in 1839 at Hamilton, Ont., became a biscuit and confectionary manufacturer at Brantford, Ont. He served the community of Brantford as Deputy Reeve, 1869-1871, and Mayor, 1872-1873. He was a Member of Parliament, 1872-1896, 1896-1911, appointed a Member of the Privy Council, 1897, as Controller of Customs, 1896-1897 and as Minister of Customs, 1897-1911.
