Fonds consists of a journal which indicates the extent and nature of Tolmie's activities following his appointment to the Union Government, but several dates are blank and most entries are short, covering the period 2 August to 26 December 1919.

Tolmie, Simon Fraser, 1867-1937 : Simon Fraser Tolmie, born in 1867 at Victoria, B.C., received his education from the Ontario Veterinary College, Guelph, Ont., and became a farmer and livestock breeder at Victoria, B.C. He was Chief Inspector, British Columbia Health of Animals Branch and Dominion Livestock Commissioner for B.C. He was a Member of the Legislative Assembly of British Columbia, 1928-1933, and served as Premier and Minister of Railways, 1928-1933.

He was a Member of Parliament, 1917-1928, 1936-1937, appointed a Member of the Privy Council, 1919, and served as Minister of Agriculture, 1919-1921, 1926.
