Fonds consists of a commission appointing Andrew Russell a surveyor in Lower Canada, 1830, and a commission appointing him Assistant Commissioner of Crown Lands, 1857, 5 pages. Also included is an address presented to Andrew Russell by the Association of Dominion Land Surveyors at Ottawa, photocopy, dated 20 March 1884, 1 page. The address is located in horizontal storage, container 2.

Russell, Andrew, 1804-1888 : Andrew Russell, surveyor, born in Glasgow, Scotland, immigrated to Lower Canada in 1822 with his family. He was appointed Superintendant of Colonization, Roads and Settlement in Megantic County, Lower Canada, in 1829. In 1841 he became Head of the Survey Branch of the Crown Lands Department for Canada Lands. In 1870 he assisted in the Canadian census and was appointed chief clerk in the Department of the Interior in 1874. He retired in 1884.
