The fonds consists of a photocopy of a register of marriages performed by the Rev. John Becket, 1905-1915; most of the marriages belong to the period when Becket was a missionary at Aspdin, 1905-1908, and relate to the Muskoka and Parry Sound districts of Ontario; a few that belong to the period after his retirement from active ministry are scattered in various places in western Ontario.

Becket, John, 1838-1921 : The Rev. John Becket was born in Otonabee Township, Peterborough County, Upper Canada on 21 February 1838. He studied for the ministry in the Canada Presbyterian Church, first at Knox Preparatory School, 1862-1864, and then at Knox College, 1864-1867, in Toronto. He was ordained in the London Presbytery of the church on 27 May 1868 and his first charge was that of Thamesville and Turin, 1868-1898. He was then ordained as a missionary of his church and until his retirement in 1908 served first at Magnetawan, 1899-1900; then at Sundridge, Bloomfield, Hartfell, and Lynch Lake, 1900-1905; and finally at Aspdin, 1905-1908. He died in November 1921.

Custodial history:

Received in 1977 from Mr. Sherwood J. Beckett Sugden of La Salle, Illinois, a great-grandson of the Rev. John Becket. The fonds was microfilmed in 1987.
