Fonds consists of two addresses given by Hon. Colin Gibson and Lieutenant-Governor Sir Albert Walsh at the Confederation Ceremony, St. John's, Newfoundland, 1 April 1949, and a certificate of Canadian Citizenship with a letter dated 9 June 1964 explaining the ceremony.

Gibson, Colin William George, 1891-1974 : Colin William George Gibson, born in 1891 at Hamilton, Ont., received his education from the Royal Military College and Osgoode Hall and practised law in Hamilton. He served overseas with the Royal Fusiliers, 1914-1919.

He was a Member of the House of Commons representing Hamilton West from 1940 to 1950. During this period he served as Member of the Privy Council, 1940, Minister of National Revenue, 1940-1945, Minister of (Air) Defence, 1945-1946, Secretary of State, 1946-1949, and Minister of Mines and Resources, 1949-1950. He was appointed Puisne Judge, Supreme Court of Ontario, 1950, and retired in 1965.
