Fonds consists of a typescript speech and manuscript notes by Hembrow-Smith on early settlement and the development of theatre in the Saskatoon area; typescript notes with some manuscript annotations by Hembrow-Smith concerning his life; and typescripts and clippings relating to the Barr Colony, the legend of White Horse Plain, and the Tête Jaune railway construction, 1911-1913.

Hembrow-Smith, Frank : Frank Hembrow-Smith, actor, came to Canada from England in 1903 with the Barr Colonists and settled near Saskatoon, Sask. In 1907, he went back to England to complete a course in dramatic art and after his return to Canada in 1909, he organized the Victor Concert Party, which provided local entertainment. In 1922, he helped form the Saskatoon Little Theatre and in 1951, its successor, the Community Players. He was a member of the executive of the Saskatchewan Drama League. In recognition of his services to Canadian theatre, he was presented in 1940 with the Canadian Drama Award.
