Fonds also contains photographs of places across Canada taken by Charles Wasserman for use as illustrations in his books, 1950-1960.

Fonds also contains recordings of radio shows, 1950-1969, and one motion picture film.

Wassermann, Charles Ulrich, 1924-1978 : Charles Ulrich Wassermann, born in 1924 at Vienna, Austria, was studying in London, England when he was interned as an enemy alien soon after the outbreak of World War II and sent to Canada. Here he studied at Lower Canada College and McGill University before embarking upon a career as broadcaster and writer. Between 1950 and 1954 he wrote the weekly half-hour comedy series "Fiddle Joe's Yarns" for the CBC.

In 1954 Wassermann settled in Altaussee, Austria, where his family had been living before the war. In Europe, Wassermann freelanced for CBC radio, branching into television in 1956 when he covered the Poznan riots in Poland and the Hungarian Revolution as a cameraman-reporter. In the 1960s he was also appointed Eastern European correspondent for the Swiss Broadcasting Corporation. His experiences in Hungary led to his being asked to write a book in German. "Tagebuch der Freiheit" was picked up by the German Book of the Month Club and led to the publication of eleven other books in German, including two detective novels, an autobiographical novel and several books about Canada.

In addition to his work as an author and a reporter, Wassermann also became involved in documentary films when in 1967 he founded Charles Wasserman Telefilm, which concentrated on explaining the social, political and economic concerns of Eastern, Central and Southern Europe to a Western audience.

Charles Wasserman died on 1 May 1978 in Altaussee, Austria.
