Field survey notebooks kept by George Brownly Kirkpatrick while conducting surveys of Fisher and Palmer Townships, Algoma District. Also included are notes on the townships of Ley, Tilley, Havilland and Herrick, and on Batchewaung Bay. Originals, 216 pages.

Kirkpatrick, George Brownly, 1835-1917 : George Brownly Kirkpatrick was born at Coolmine House, Clonsilla County, Dublin, Ireland on 13 September 1835 and completed his education at Trinity College. He served as midshipman for two years in the Merchant Service and sailed around the tip of Africa during that time. He came to Canada in 1857 and settled in Kingston. For two years he was engaged on the construction of the Grand Trunk Railway between St. Mary's and Sarnia after which he took up surveying and served his time for three years with A.B. Berry, P.L.S. at Violet in the County of Lennox and Addington. He became a licensed surveyor on 13 April 1863 and practised for three years in Kingston. In 1864 he surveyed for the government the north boundary line of the Indian Reserve at Batchawanis and the Townships of Fisher and Palmer, all near Sault Ste. Marie. He died 3 August 1917 at his residence in Toronto.
