Fonds consists of microfilmed poll tax assessment rolls for Nova Scotia; 1767-1805, and census returns for Nova Scotia, 1811, 1817, 1827, 1838, 1851 and 1861. This material is located on microfilm reels M-874 to M-887, M-1165 to M-1171, M-3134 to M-3139, M-5219 to M-5220, M-5902-M-5903.

The poll tax assessment rolls for Nova Scotia, 1767-1805, and census returns of 1811, 1817, 1827, 1838 and 1851 appear on reels M-3134 to M-3139. All but the 1851 census returns were reorganized and refilmed in 1979, on reels M-5219 and M-5220. Researchers should use reels M-5219 and M-5220 in preference to the earlier filming, as the arrangement is much easier to follow. The census returns of Pictou County for 1851 were filmed in 1980 and appear on reels M-5902 and M-5903, prefaced by a map of the districts.

Microfilm copies of the 1861 census returns, with the exception of Annapolis County, which has not been found, appear on reels M-874 to M-887 and M-1165 to M-1167.

The Pictou County returns, reels M-5902 and M-5903, were acquired only the publication of the census cataloque, and are therefore listed in detail only in finding-aid MSS300. (90: Open)
