Fonds consists of personal material; subject files concerning a number of cultural and educational organizations.

The fonds also contains photographs depicting the professional life of Vida Peene with various organizations such as the Canadian Red Cross, the Central Ontario Drama League, and the Allied Arts Committee.

In addition, there are sound recordings of proceedings of the Gala Centenary Dinner of University Women held by University Women Clubs at the Royal York Hotel in Toronto, to celebrate Canada's centennary; speeches by the Honourable Judy LaMarsh, Blanche H. Dow, and Laura Sabia at the Gala Centenary Dinner of the Canadian Federation of University Women, held in the Royal York Hotel, Toronto.

Peene, Vida, 1898-1978 : Vida Hampt Peene, patron of the arts, was born in Hamilton, Ont., and received her education from the University of Toronto and the Ontario College of Art. Throughout her life she promoted and supported the arts. During World War II she actively promoted and raised funds for the arts in general, and was Commandant of the Food Administration Section of the Red Cross Corps, Toronto Detachment. After the war she served in various executive capacities with numerous cultural organizations. These positions included director of the National Ballet of Canada, 1955-1958, an original member of the Canada Council, 1957-1961, president of the Dominion Drama Festival, 1962-1964, director of the Canadian Music Centre, 1964-1970, and member of the executive committee of the Canadian Conference of the Arts, 1960-1968.

She was the first person in Canada to represent the arts in all three levels of government. She was awarded the Civic Award of Merit in 1964 for distinguished services to the City of Toronto, received the Central Drama League Award, 1964, the Centennial Medal, 1967, the Canadian Drama League Award, 1964, and was awarded the Order of Canada in 1970. She was appointed by the Municipality of Metropolitan Toronto Council to the Board of Management of the O'Keefe Centre, 1968-1970.
