Item is a manuscript entitled "Henry Young of East Lake" which traces the career of Henry Young, a United Empire Loyalist from New York and one of the first settlers at East Lake, Prince Edward County, Ont. The manuscript is actually a condensation of a longer work entitled, "The Youngs Came to East Lake".

Young, Clarence Richard, b. 1879 : Clarence Richard Young born in 1879 near Picton, Ont. received his education from the University of Toronto, B.A.Sc. 1905, C.E. 1914, D.Eng. 1943, D.Sc.A. 1946. He began his engineering career as a draughtsman with the Dominion Bridge Co. in Montreal, 1903-1904, and then moved to Toronto where he worked with the Toronto and York Radical Railways as Assistant Engineer, 1905-1907, and the Canadian Foundry Co. 1906-1907. He continued his profession as a consulting civil engineer.

In 1907 he began his long association with the University of Toronto as a lecturer and in 1924 became professor, and later Dean of Civil Engineering, 1941-1949.

He has numerous publications to his credit including such subjects as engineering, military history and history.
