Fonds consists of Dr. Leddy's detailed case studies for wounded soldiers operated on by Capt., later Major, Leddy. The wounds include abdominal, chest, various fractures and multiple injuries as well as traumatic amputations. The case studies give more detail than that found in the more common monthly surgical reports.

Leddy, J.E, 1912- : Dr. Leddy was born in 1912 at Ottawa. His family moved to Saskatoon and there he received a B.A. and the first two years of his medical training at the University of Saskatoon. He took his final 3 years at McGill University in Montreal and graduated in 1937. Dr. Leddy took up private practice in Toronto and at the outbreak of World War II, was Resident Surgeon at St. Michael's Hospital, Toronto. Dr. Leddy joined the Army Medical Corps and went overseas with the 4th Canadian Armoured Division. In July 1944, he performed a week of surgery at Normandy and then led a resuscitation team until October 1944, when he was given his own surgical team at Brasschat, Belgium just outside of Antwerp. He did most of his work at Nijmegen, Holland until he was transferred back to England on 6 May, 1945.
