The fonds also consists of views of the interior of the Governor General's residence at the Citadel, Quebec; portraits of the Willis-O'Connor family and various dignitaries; photos of Quebec City, Lake Louise, Channel Islands.
The fonds includes art material: portrait of Henry Willis O'Connor entitled "The Devil" by Sir William Orpen (1878-1931); cartoon of Canadian Corps Headquarters Camblain, l'Abbe, France; cartoon of man and dog; drawing of a Luncheon at Rallencourt Chateau near St. Paul, France; bookplate with arms of the Geo. Nat. O'Connor; caricature of N.P. Willis and General L. Morris and a handbill for C.C. Wright & Co., N.Y., advertising burnished point steel pens. Art material also consists of portraits of members of the O'Connor family. The portraits are by Ernest Fosbery, Fred Precht, Frederic Lock (attributed to) and an unknown artist.
Also included are topographical and trench maps pertaining to World War I.Provenance:Biography/Administrative history:O'Connor, Daniel (family) : The O'Connors were among the first settlers of Ottawa, Ont. In 1827 Colonel By encouraged Daniel O'Connor (1796-1858) to settle in Bytown. Daniel O'Connor, a native of Waterford, Ireland married Margaret Power. He became one of the first justices of the peace and judge of the court of requests appointed by the government. He was treasurer of Carleton County 1842-1858, Chairman of the Grammar Board of Carleton County, and Chairman of the Board of Health. In 1834 he ran unsuccessfully against Thomas McKay in the first election of a member to represent the County of Russell in the Legislature of Upper Canada.
Daniel O'Connor Jr. (1835-1913) son of Daniel O'Connor, was born at Ottawa, Ont. He was educated at the Ottawa Grammar school, and at the University of Ottawa. He married Miss Anna Maria O'Meara (d. 1867) and later in 1869 married Kate Charlsetta (d. 1898). He was a well-known lawyer and an active conservative who became a legal agent and solicitor for the Dominion Government in Ottawa from 1878 to 1896.
Colonel Henry Willis-O'Connor (1886-1957), son of Daniel O'Connor Jr., was born at Ottawa, Ont. He joined the Governor-General's Foot Guards in Ottawa in 1906, served during World War I, and from 1915 to 1920 was aide-de-camp (A.D.C.) to Sir Arthur Currie. He was transferred to the Canadian Permanent Force and rose to the rank of colonel in 1919. He served as A.D.C. to five successive Governors-General (Byng, Willingdon, Bessborough, Tweedsmuir and Athlone) until his retirement in 1946. In 1921 he married Hyacinth Shaw. They had two children , Melodie (Mrs. Hart Massey) and Raymond.
