Fonds consists of letters received, including one from Lord Byng of Vimy, 1928; field messages, memoranda, an account of the second battle of Ypres by Brigadier-General G.S. Tuxford, and a draft manuscript written by Hilliam, pertaining to events on the Third Army Front in March, 1918.

Hilliam, Edward, 1865-1949 : Brigadier-General Edward Hilliam was born in England. He was an officer of the 17th Lancers, 1883-1893, and riding master of the North West Mounted Police, 1893-1900. He also served in the South African War, 1900-1905 and subsequently engaged in fruit ranching. During World War I, he was Adjutant of the 5th Battalion and in 1917 became a major-general in the Imperial Army.
