Hoerner, Sophie, 1877-1961 : Sophie Mary Hoerner was born in Montreal on 21 August 1877 and trained as a nurse. She was the superintendent of the Receiption Hospital in Saranac Lake NY for 10 years. She enlisted in the Canadian Army Medical Corps on 15 April 1915 as a nursing sister. Hoerner served overseas with the No. 1 Canadian General Hospital in France in the early summer of 1915 and then served as home sister and later assistant matron of No. 3 Casualty Clearing Station. She received the Royal Red Cross second class on 3 June 1916 and Royal Red Cross First Class in 1919 as well as being mentioned in dispatches in June 1916. She married M.W. Price in 1919.
