Gray, Robert Hampton, 1917-1945 : Robert Hampton Gray, aviator, was born at Trail, B.C. and received his early education at Nelson, B.C. In 1940, he joined the Royal Canadian Navy Reserve. He served in England, Kenya, and the Far East. For his actions in the Far East, he was posthumously awarded the Victoria Cross. Gray was named a member of Canada's Aviation Hall of Fame in 1973.
