Fonds consists of various newspapers collected or edited by Kartar Singh including The Indian Emigrant, 1914-1918, The Aryan, 1911-1912; and India & Canada, 1929-1936 in English and Punjabi, and one issue of The Hindustanee, 1914.

Singh, Kartar : Kartar Singh, publisher and editor, emigrated from India to Canada in 1912 and became active in the Sikh community, publishing the newspaper Samsar. A graduate of the Faculty of Arts, Khalsa College, Amritsar, 1909, he became involved in the struggle for equality and justice through his newspapers and the Khalsa Diwan Societies of the first Sikh temples.

In the late 1920s, Mr. Singh started another publication, India & Canada, an English language periodical, to promote better inter-cultural understanding. The economic problems of the depression led to the suspension of this project.
