The fonds consists of a transcript made by Douglas E. Eagles of the Douglas Township Book, 1799-1880, of Douglas township in Hants County, Nova Scotia. It includes Minutes of Township Meetings, 1799-1820; a bond, 1827, between James Woodward and the Overseers of the Poor, for the maintenance of John Ham[m]erman; Treasurer's Accounts, 1813-1817; a list of Township Officers, 1815-1826; the township register of births, marriages and deaths, 1715-1873; and earmarks for cattle, sheep and swine, 1808-1880. The typescript retains the spelling of proper names found in the original, but makes some changes in the organization of the book's contents.

It also includes an index of the surnames found in the book, made by Douglas E. Eagles in 1968. In this index, those names which occur in the register of births, marriages and deaths are asterisked.

Douglas Township (N.S.) : Douglas Township was founded in 1783. It was in Hants County, a central county of Nova Scotia situated to the south of the Minas Basin and Cobequid Bay. After the expulsion of the Acadians in 1755, the area was repopulated mainly by settlers from New England who arrived in 1760-1761. The township system of government was abolished in 1857.
